I'm not quite certain what you mean.. I am an african by birth. That is to say, I was born in Africa, as were both my parents. My heritage and genealogy is of mixed european descent. (some of my ancestors were German, some British, some French etc.) my culture is based in South Africa. Although many cultures co-exist side by side here so one cannot say that there is a distinct 'South African' culture. But I definitely do not follow a European culture. :left:. I hope this clears things up for you..

Hi friends. Did you all see super moon?
It was overcast here. :awww:.
They say, earth's axis changed a little.. A day gets over a micro second earlier than usual
"They say, earth's axischanged a little.. A daygets over a micro secondearlier than usual" – I thought that was from the Japanese earthquake. Coincidental occurence though, on the waxing moon. It was cloudy here late at night as well. Could've caught the rise but I missed it hiding in my tent from a cold front.

Man, there's another earthquake in japan. Poor japan!@Tom&lovinmalamutes: the super moon was wonderful… It was 19% bigger than the actual size.
I have always enjoyed the simple reply: "I am from earth." :eyes:
. Sometimes I wonder if I am..
i don't wonder. I know where you're from :spock:
I don't think I've ever been to Vulcan. And I know I don't have pointy ears. :awww:.

π Qlue, the education level of Indonesian people are low here. Please be patient with him. Maybe his teacher has said that African has a coloured skin at class. So it information kept in his mind for long time till he found you. I think he did a right action, asked u, to make sure.
Thank goodness for the Internet. Without it, there be no real education anywhere..
Good morning Africa, hi everyone, hiya qlue! :)366 comments are a 'litte' too much for anyone… :pHowever to me it'd be very interesting reading every one of them. Truly I'm not African but I was told my granpa was an African descendant and recently I realized how few I know about your continent and people. Wow, a new continent for discovering! what a challenge, qlue… I know more about China or India than from you. Well, but this can be fixed, huh? I think I could start here in your blog, qlue. π
And Africa is a big place..
Certainly I already know it. Last night I calculated almost 50 countries over there… Am I wrong? :sherlock:
I honestly don't know. Most of the current African Countries didn't even exist when I was in school. And the ones that did, don't exist anymore. :faint:.And every Country has several different cultures living in it. South Africa has eleven official languages, two of which are of European origin. There are about five or six other indigenous languages here that are not represented as official languages. Each of those languages represent different cultures and within each culture there are several sub-cultures. Then there are two land-locked countries within the borders of South Africa and four counties along our northern borders. Moçambique is a former Portuguese colony and hence it inherits Portuguese as a language and culture. We also have communities of immigrants from China, Portugal, Lebanon and Greece. (Third and fourth generation in some cases)In short, no human being can ever claim to be an expert on South African culture, let alone African culture. :p.

That's nobody's business but mine. There aren't many countries named after a direction or a continent. The USA is named after an intention that never was and a continent or two.Canada was named after a small boat and Australia was named after something dragged behind a car.The Europeans, specifically the British, specifically the English specifically a small minority of the English, have a lot to answer for.

I have been trying to do my best avoiding that sentence above in bold, but you look like unaware of that Blog setting feature "Automatically disable comments for a post" in your Wrench menu. I have been reading your older posts and wanting to add a comment there but…Are you really aware and selecting that "30 day after posttime or last comment" option? :eyes:You might also select "never"… Ah well, you might answer that first..
It should be set to "never disable for friends" :sherlock::doh: We're not on each other's friends list yet! π Add me as a friend and you're in!

i just watched the timbuktu video. i hope they just scan every page before they get lost in building schools etc.. if these really fall apart like ashes, the priority should be to scan them all page by page and begin the translations. i, for one, can't wait to read what will surely be some fascinating material. :coffee:hope your arm is getting better. π‘

unfortunately, there is not enough money available nor enough interest from the academic world to make this a priority. :awww:I was taught in school that the period called the "dark ages" was a period when nobody kept historical records. The truth is that the Muslims, and especially the Arabs, were writing and recording vigorously during that period, but "western" scholars are just not interested in the Arabic perspective as it reflects a very different history for Europe than the "classical" views that have been taught since the so called Renaissance period. :rolleyes:Originally posted by I_ArtMan:
Thanks. It's usable for now. I hope it stays that way for a bit! :yes:Originally posted by sabineborg:

well, apparently i know better than western scholars. it was arabs like abicenna who jolted the european communties with arabic scientific writing especially in mathematics astronomy/astrology and philosophy. ibn senna, i think he was called in arabic. π‘ those manuscripts could have some very interesting material.
Hya, Aadil π We are all brothers and sisters on this planet, no matter what religion, race, or gender. I enjoy reading your posts because they are so informative.Take care π
