Well Tempered Clavicle by Piers Anthony.
Apparently, this book cannot be bought in South Africa. So if anyone has any suggestions? π₯ .
I've read every other Xanth novel and I will read this one, one way or another! :irked: .
:sst: . You can let me know via email if you have a second-hand copy for me or something! .
Check your email, Mr Scientist π
I take it that you cannot get it from Amazon or any of the others?I use these guys, cheap and efficient in every transaction so far..http://www.alibris.com/booksearch?keyword=Well+Tempered+Clavicle&mtype=B
I'll try those sites later. .Barnes&Noble took my card details before informing me that the book I requested is, "not available in your region" :irked: .Amazon and other sites all said the same thing. :awww: .Right now my battery is about to give out though. π
Don't trust CD WOW!
Is that what the CD WOW site said?? :amazed:
Why not? I've been using them for ages, not a single slip up :curious:
Flarin, I didn't have a chance yet to try that site. I'll probably have a look tonight. :left: .I was actually looking for an ebook copy because a paper book can be more awkward to deal with. :left: . And I would never order a physical book from the USA as they have the most expensive shipping fees in the World! :insane: .
CDWOW is I think, not USA based, luckily – and it's postage free – all comes in the price. I have 2 CDWOW accounts, one in Danmark and one in NZ – I use the NZ one usually because it's in English and shows the price in $NZ,the Danish one is in Dansk and shows the price in Kroner – the pricing is actually the same, and (so far) it's been utterly reliable :)\edit : and if you have a login account, every 20th item is free, I had a few good CDs for free now – we like that  And of course it's WAAAAY cheaper than buying the same items locally in Danmark π Each individual item is sent separately, so as not to attract import taxes (or whatever they're called), and I think that's cool too, if I'm ordering 10 DVDs or CDs…
Used them three times. The first two they took my money as soon as the order was made (one of the products wasn't out for five months at the time) yet when things were due to arrive they were repeatedly listed as waiting for stock. A month I waited for one of the items before cancelling. A fortnight-ish for the other. The third time I was presented with the waiting for stock routine I immediately called up to cancel and get my refund and was greeted by an incredibly rude individual on the other end of the phone line who grunted and swore his way through the parts of the conversation that he could understand.I make a point to warn people about them now.
Oh dear, that's no good…Well, on the other side of the coin, both Pussy Cat and I have individually had nothing but excellent service and excellent value from them for at least the last 3 years (and I buy *a lot* of music & movies) π Much better value and quicker delivery times than my Amazon.com experiences, for sure. Can't talk about Amazon.co.uk though because I've never used them, and the southern hemisphere doesn't have it's own Amazon (yet), not that I care now π
I've had the opposite. Great service from Amazon (especially the UK site), lousy from CD Wow. Goes to show, service is personal and any recommendation or condemnation should be taken with a pinch of "your experience may differ" salt.
Aadil, could the ebook (epub?) be sent as an email attachment?
Any file can be sent as an email attachment. Although some larger files would not be allowed by most email servers. :sherlock: .
For a really large file you might need to use a service such as You Send It.com.
Or something like winrar where you can break it up into parts and re-assemble at the other end..
It occurs that I may have just "shown my age" :awww:
Can you not download it as a torrent?
For large files I use Opera Unite File Sharing.
What ebook files can you handle? I've got a process to both optimise file sizes on them as well as change the file type and keep it workable.
I can handle anything that's not locked by propriety 'patents' .The problem is finding a copy of the book I'm looking for! The American publishers don't have a licence to distribute in South Africa and the South African publishers don't have the rights to that book! :irked: .:sst: Does America registers patents for books yet? :sherlock: .
I looked it up and found it available at either Barnes and Noble, or Kobo, don't remember for sure now, but they had it for, if I remember rightly, 7.99 USD
Yes, but it's only available for the USA. I can't purchase it from Barnes&Noble as I'm not in America. :irked: .I'm reading Piers Anthony's ChroMagic series instead now. I'll get this through the grapevine later. (If I can't buy it I'll get it the other way. π )
Just go to America and buy it.. Easy π
This is ridiculous. Products of the intellect should be available anywhere. Do they burn books in S. Africa too?
Are Cuban cigars intellectual property? :p
Dunno, try buying a Cuban Cigar where you are π
No, but it is a good example of trade being restricted for what is really no apparently good reason
Odd that. Cuban cigars aren't even all that special, yet the fact they're banned has given them the allure that only comes from forbidden fruit over there.
Best cigar I ever had was an American one
Best I had was from Afghanistan. The smoke was blue somehow. Really cool effect.
Er, was that really a cigar??
Yeah, it was 'bout the same length as a 1.5 litre coke bottle and the same width as a hairbrush handle. :left::sst: Out of context that sounds filthy. I won't mention how much I enjoyed sucking on it…
The ones I had from the states were not too much smaller, fantastic things, lasted for hours..
I've never been interested in cigars. :left: .
They make you smell like an ashtray, for a start π
I did not know that ashtrays had noses…
Very funny π
Old jokes are the best ones..My dogs got no nose..How does it smell?Horrible!
And sometimes, my nose runs and my feet smell. I must be upside down. :p .
Thats another favourite
