Spam Magnet
by subacati
Apparently I'm selling my WoW account! :left: I didn't even know I had one! π .
And yesterday, someone compromised my non-existent NCsoft account! .
I've been receiving a lot of ridiculous spam on MyOpera mail since they've removed the PM function! Am I paranoid for thinking there's a connection? :awww: .
The PM function is sadly missed.. :awww:
Just another instance of Opera as Big Brother, knowing what's best for us…
I already have a sufficiency of email accounts. The PM function was cool. The last thing I need, apart from a hemorrhage, is another bloody email account π I'll never use it, for sure.MyOpera is the only valid reason to use Opera at all, i m o π The more Fun that is taken out of the Functionality, the less reason there will be to use Opera at all.\edit : I *have* tested it though, with Pussy Cat, so we know it works. But I don't care if I get spam or not because I'll never look at the account. It's not my email address – if you want to send me a message, let me know in a blog and I'll give you one of my real email addresses π
Actually, email does not make a good substitute for PM's. :awww: .And spam is just one example of why. A PM can only be sent by a registered MyOpera member whereas email can assault you from all corners of the globe. :irked: .Second, email is a hassle to deal with, especially when everyone has different types of email accounts set up.Why couldn't they have integrated the PM's into an instant messaging service (as an optional feature) instead. Surely that would have satisfied the Crackberry addicts? :left: .And other than Crackberry addicts, who else would prefer email to PM's? .
A messaging service would be infinitely preferable. The people driving Opera simply have no idea. They're turning it into <any good-to-average browser> with a red badge. Soon, they'll have thrown away all the cool, fun things that made it that much more attractive in the first place.
I think they should add an option to only send an receive messages from My Opera members. That should solve some of the problems. :sherlock:

We can use rules for that. it should work. And, Message button is restricted to myopera users only, further it can be restricted to friends and moderators.
Am I the only one not getting spam. Blast! The whole world knows I have no money to be conned out of π
I have no idea where this spam is coming from. But it's very different from what I get on my Gmail account. .

I give my email address only to those browser games and I still have spam folder full of viagra offers… Some people are better magnets some not… On my other email address I don't receive spams but I've used to receive pictures of some hanged people and some hand with some dirty circle in the middle from some guy I've never heard of and I don't share that email address with strangers, I have no idea what happened then, can I consider it a spam or no?
I rarely get spam from anywhere. I miss the PM function, too. Opera Unite has an instant message function, but I haven't tried to use it in forever. Would be better to have a chat function something on the order of Facebook.

The problem is that you need to have a permanent connection and always on computer for Unite. :left:Originally posted by gyng:
Any unwanted mail from an unknown source can be considered 'spam' .
Well then I received spams as some professional spam receiver  …But it freaked the hell out of me…

Not.Your identity is worth someone else's fortune as in money laundering, getting hold of accounts and various sub-offers such as access to your NI number -even info that can provide fraudsters with passport and birth certificate details is worth selling on.Then there is your credit history. You may end up in court for non payment of loans and HP contracts. Having NO Money and not having access to money are totally different things. And bang goes your credit history and maybe ability to get a credit card from a bank you have used for decades. The OP is probably friends with others on here who have loads of scam sites in their friends lists. Some of the divs on here seem only interested in making friends. If they are not scammers, they may well have compromised accounts and compromised accounts = compromised address books.***Be careful who your friends are they may turn out to be enemies.*** Originally posted by L2D2:
The E-mail account isn't very large. It will soon be filled if you use the PM function a lot.

I do realise about the dangers of identity fraud – even though I am skint. I meticulously shred envelopes with my name and address on, for example. Not so long ago I received a bill from a catalogue. Someone had tried to order goods in my name. Thankfully, they didn't know my date of birth and a few other details so I got out of that one. :eyes:
