Little Mosque On The Prairie

A short review of a Canadian comedy! …
Little Mosque On The Prairie is a Canadian comedy about a small Muslim community and their interactions with the rest of the town. They rent the Parish hall of the local Anglican Parish to use as their Mosque!
I've just watched season 1 which is not bad!.
Although I must point out that this is not even close to representative of the Muslim community here in South Africa. I will not presume to guess how closely it represents Canadian Muslims either as I've never been to Canada.
I think this is a great show, however, and everyone should watch..
P.S: The first season may be floating around somewhere on certain torrent sites! :pirate::whistle:.
Four stars out of five for being funny
And three stars out of five overall!

I think and sure, many Muslims from Asia, living in South Africa, having many relatives in Canada !:)
Well, I don't know about that! :sherlock:.The majority of South African Muslims seem to have family ties to India! the rest seem to be of Central and Northern Africa!.But you may be right! :left:.
My dear friend, many from my place are at South Africa and at Canada. Therefore all are inter related with them. Most of the families are from my area. There are so many at UK, USA and so many other countries of the world are living there permanently there with their families. They became citizen of those countries where they are living. Each year many families are from my place-Muslims are going for permanent settlement at Canada, USA, UK and other countries on marriage basis or on job basis. This is a cent percent fact. π
You are true that some time before independent movement of Nelson Mondela, there were no ties with India and other countries with South Africa. But, some families from India and other Asian countries, were settled in S.A. before , means more than 100 years. They are so much related with family ties with Indian families. Now a days, from my place, withing a week any one comes and goes to S.A. and joint for marriage ties. Same way all are related with other countries. Most probably many countries of the world. We, Gujaraties are famous all over the world as a business man ! Mr.Gandhi was also at S.A. and he was demoralised by white personals and threw him from the first class coach for the reason of that he was a black person π
Actually, I don't know many South Africans of any faith or culture that have family in Canada or the USA! :sherlock:.We have strong ties to the UK, Australia and New Zealand though!.It's just rare for a South African to emigrate to the Americas! :p.It's also historically almost impossible to get an American Visa on a South African passport! (although that's changed in recent years!)Basically, it's only recently that South Africans have even been able to emigrate to the USA and getting into Canada required that you either had dual citizenship or family that was already there!.
I agree with you my friend about family and qualifying and knowing, but, so far from Indians and in my society, there are marriage relations and family ties. So, it is not possible that all are knowing each one. May be new born or young generation is unknown about relations. But, when any matrimonial ceremony is arranged and give invitations or some religious congregations, all are gathered and refresh their relations. About European culture and their family ties are so different! Their way of living and thoughts are so different. Some one told me that European girl,in the moring marry and planning for divorce in the evening ! True, Eastern & Western are so differ by all ways π
Well with that convoluted reasoning, we are all related. But that's not the same as have a brother or an uncle in Canada. Basically, the majority of US population is 'white' which makes them all related to Europeans..Someone you've never met might technically be 'family', but that doesn't qualify as actually 'knowing' them. :left:.It would be like me saying that I'm French or Austrian, just because I have ancestors from those countries. I don't actually know of any family from those countries and even he I met some distant ancestoral cousin from one of those countries, we'd probably never even know we're related. :p.
it seems very interesting! I doubt the US TVs will host it BUT I will wait for the DVDs at the Intl films, rent is always a better solution… thanks for sharing!
I love the design in your post!
Angeliki, The first few seasons should already be available on dvd as the first season aired in 2007.. And thanks, the new blog design was created by Chuck, aka Suntana. :D.
I will tell San about that show, if she gives it a try I will ask her how close it is to reality. Vancouver has a big veriety of nations and religions there
Looks good.
I am sure it will make its way over here, I will give it a go..

Well, the portrayal is not true to Muslims in South Africa. So it may not be entirely accurate. However, the show is written by a Muslim so it must at least be based partly on personal experiences. (T.V. is never true to life anyway right?)
Yes. And it also gives some insight for non Muslims about Muslim beliefs..
Sounds like a funny and interesting idea for a comedy

If you take a look at the name of the show, and you know American television, you would know that the name of that show was taken from the American show "Little House on the Prairie" that aired from the 1960's until present (including re-runs) and is based on an actual family. The Ingalls family was a real family here in America. The daughter that tells the stories, died in the late 1960's after her books were published and it is one of her daughters that took on the roll of making sure they all went to film, which was her mother's dream.Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote the Little House on the Prairie series.Still, it could prove to be an interesting watch, if it ever comes to American television.

It was screened in South Africa in the eighties! :hat:.(although dubbed with the English on simulcast as I recall. :left:)This show only borrows the name in part!
Yes, but I just thought I'd bring it to the attention of the visitors so that they not only get the info on the show itself, but also what it is a parody of for your American visitors and those that have seen the American show. Also, I have a new blog post up if you are interested. Its quite a controversial one at that. And one not only for us Americans, but for the world as well.

I have been told of a large church in California that hosts 4 very different religions, one of which may be muslim. They all have a schedule set up for when their particular church meets. Which seems bizarre to me, but maybe these churches didn't have the funds to build their own church houses. Property in Calif. is very expensive.
The strange thing is that the message from each would not be dissimilar
I tried to Google for it but it seems that this is a common practice in California. I found a number of 'Shared Space' programs..
π @ Flarins comment. π
It's probably quite expensive to setup a new church in California. :sherlock:.
Aadil, I didn't do a search, but I wonder why that is. Reckon that's for shared expenses or lack of space or all of the above? Actually, the church I was last a member of started life as a mission church and we met in the Little Red Schoolhouse that was a day care facility for children in it's weekday job. It was an interesting experience. Would have to set out folding chairs, pulpit, hymn books, keyboard for each service Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night. When service was over we'd have to fold the chairs and stash them in their storage place, collect the hymnals and put them away in a particular spot, and I don't know what we did with the keyboard—deacons may have taken it home with them or something. We did this for 3 years till we got together funds enough to build our own church building and went from mission status to church.
