MXITese!
by subacati
I'm appealing to all South African's online to please stop with the MXIT speak already!!!.
It's scares me when a university student studying media can't type a full sentence! Hell they can't even type a full word!! :insane:!
What is MXIT??Is that like text speak?
π yep.
In a way! MXIT is an instant messaging client and service created for mobile phones in South Africa back in the days of wapThe service has matured well and grown with the technology! unfortunately, the users never mature. they learn 'text speak' as their mother tongue and become incapable of writing in proper English! :awww:.It's quite sad actually. They become doctors, lawyers and politicians, but never overcome this severe mental disorder! :awww:.
Irritates me also. I get alot of PM's like that but I refuse to answer them. Even if someone's English isn't too good, at least make an attempt. Also despise leet speak.
I don't mind people making some of the words shorter in texts/sms. But I do mind if people do it in general.
I think we would all agree with that Cat. For example, I very seldom type out "text message"…it's usually "txt msg". But convenient abbreviations are one thing…an entire conversation in it drives me batty.
It makes me wish I could reach though the 'net and choke them. Oddly, my kids are the same way about it and it's usually the younger ones doing it.
wt?! y? Dnt u no ths z 733t spk? :p
Anyone ever browse through new blogs on the main Community page? I'm kinda glad of the preview feature (shows the first paragraph of the post), because I can easily see if they're worth checking out or not. Needless to say, if I see a hint of txt spk I avd th pg lke th plg!
You know my position on this. Those that shorten words to arcane abbreviations cannot be taken seriously online or offline. While I don't mind the occasional LOL or whatever, shortening almost every word is a sign of laziness and following the crowd, two things that I've never been able to respect. The only people worse than that, intellectually speaking, are the people who TyPe lIkE ThIs all the bloody time or those that use so-called Leet speak. :furious: The gift of language shouldn't be abused in such ways. It's not elite, it's immature. I've spent the best part of a decade fighting against this sort of thing online yet people keep releasing new technologies based on the principle of people talking like that, and some schools and universities are starting to call for exams to be marked even if they're written entirely in text speak.
.
But sometimes abbreviations can be fun, too. Lately I heard a person saying:"doubleyou, doubleyou, doubleyou"That was too much. I had to leave the room … π
I too agree. I want a conversation, not a blasted alphabet soup response to everything. π
"Wubbleyou, wubbleyou, wubbleyou" is one that used to be used by a talkback radio personality here once upon a time. :lol:Originally posted by Furie:
People actually use text speak on exams?! The thing should be wadded up by the teacher and thrown back at the student!* shows his age *
Adeyemi writes:In asmuch as the recipient can grap the content of the message, i dont see anything bad in it. But it should never be allowed in schools
I've heard differently.
I've never grapped anything in my life and I'll sue anyone who says otherwise. :furious:
I'm suing you. I'm all about love and peace.
Are your eyes brown?
Apparently, his eyes are a honey-gold colour, and his skin sparkles like glitter in full sunlight..
Don't start that Twilight crap with me. :bomb:
Edward? :left:
No, Mik. :p
That's Kitty, not me. :left:
<waves> Over here! π
See? :p
*shakes head*
You have another believer in me. Most of the kids who graduate don't have the ability to read and write well, even now. Cell phones have a lot to answer for.
Hey! It's PC based instant messaging that started this problem.
Maybe chat rooms, Furie, but I've never actually run across anyone on my Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live Messenger who used textese. Just my personal experience.
You're lucky. America has it worse than most countries thanks to the two way pager boom providing a stepping stone between IM and text messaging for people.
I still have a pager. I very clearly remember when they were very popular. All the best people carried them.
Drug dealers, pimps, hired killers…
Politicians …

*thwacks Dennis over the head with a frying pan with every word*He was a naughty boy with his taxes. Sure, he lost everything and was forced onto a TV show he wanted nothing to do with so he could pay back those taxes, and sure, that TV show rocketed him to a level of fame where he's now able to get a minimum $25 million per movie plus thirty percent of the take (a feat only Jack Nicholson and Arnie have managed as far as I know), but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be counted as a naughty boy. Seriously, the guy's done nothing else wrong in his entire life and the one thing he did do wrong wasn't his fault and made him super rich and famous. Bastard!
