Universal Soldier
by subacati
I was inspired to search for this video after visiting Shaunak's page.. …
The hippie movement began in the fifties. It reached a peak in the sixties with Vietnam being a hotly debated topic. Finally, in the seventies it subsided as drugs and rock'n roll won over more people. Today we still debate on how many soldiers it takes to bring peace to our world. But perhaps peace starts with just one soldier, the one who chooses not to fight anymore…

You don't see many songs like that these days.
True. Very True.
You need a look at South African history for a better view of Gandhi than regular history shows. He had no problem calling in soldiers to get blacks out of the Indian quarter.Unfortunately the grim reality of the world is that the only thing that starts with a soldier choosing not to fight is a firing squad. Peace between countries begins when the very last soldier in the world stops fighting. Then the countries get torn apart internally by all the people who've been too scared previously to act like the twats they really are inside.
That's very profound.
I must admit that I am not the first person to think this. History is littered with the tombs of men who said, "enough!!" and laid their arms to rest. We can recall even in recent history, people like Gandhi.
Your cynicism is noted. Sadly, much of what you say may, in fact, be true. But no man can fight a war alone. So it is only as long as people choose to be soldiers that tyrants will have the weapons to fight that war. the scary thing is that with modern technology, soldiers are rapidly becoming redundant. The wars of the future may well have been foretold in stories like, "The Matrix", and, "Terminator". :insane:.So, as long as the human soldier is still required to wage war, there is hope that war can be eliminated. But if we reach the point where machines wage war without human interaction being required… :insane:.BTW, How's that new batch of robot soldiers coming along?.
Hmmm….I wonder what will happen if robot soldiers turn into hippies….You know the "make love not war" thing….
Why do optimists always call realists, cynicists?
Heavy metal symphony's .
The robot army has a role to play, but it's not about war, it's about distraction. The wars that Furtopia wages are completely laboratory-bound. Nanos that can reconfigure a person's brain activity and change their entire thought process. Literal "smart" bombs that make their victims decision making process match that of a seven year old who's been taught the difference between right and wrong (we had to grow one in the lab).
Speak for yourself, mortal!
My, my, Thor is touchy today../this guy is riding around on a horse shouting, "I'm Thor, I'm Thor",eventually, the god of thunder rides up to an inn. As he dismounts, he gives the innkeeper a dirty looks and shouts, "I am Thor!".The inn keeper looks at him and proclaims, "That'th becauth you forgot your thaddle thilly"
Cynicism is a more polite word than pessimism perhaps?.I'm very much a cynic. Albeit an optimistic one. I believe that good and bad is in all of us. We're all human. :left:.
Funny you should mention that, gangs remind me of soldiers too. Uniform, kill anyone in different colours, do what you're told rather than think freely, try and stab the handsome bartender who tells you you've had enough to drink then cry when he puts you through a window, etc.
😆 Mildly back on topic, Kim just told me something interesting about a couple of Facebook groups. There's one on there called Soldiers Are Not Heroes (a sentiment I believe myself – you can't be a killer and a hero except in movies) that put forward that belief in the confines of their own group. And of course, there's another group dedicated to trying to have that group banned simply for having an opinion.
That's human nature for you.. I believe the introduction to your blog says something about how we tend to kill the people that try to make things better? (not the exact wording but as close as I can get without repeating the whole script).I've been a 'soldier' due to conscription. I don't know how someone can choose that lifestyle. It's really not nice been told when to shit, eat, sleep, think etc. (literaly :insane:).I see a similar thing with the prison gangs. People actually choose to join a gang where being a member means you do as the gang leader tells you to. :insane:.
Exactly..That's why I have people dirty looks when they suggested that I join permanent force..
