Deadly connection!
by subacati
This is an example of a poorly maintained electrical socket outlet. :irked:
.
Notice how the faceplate is completely absent? Perhaps you've also
noted that the socket has become completly disengaged from it's
chassis. In case you can't see it yourself, I'd also like to point out
that the earth socket is connected to ground via the chassis, (to
which it's no longer connected.)
:insane: .
Now this socket is mostly used to power a small coil heater at night.
It gets pretty cold up here in the tower at times. The sticker on the
heater clearly states that, "This appliance must be earthed."
:yikes: .
The scary thing is, this kind of thing is common, even in many homes
around this country.
:insane: .
Is that a job someone did at your home or work? Either way, you're right – nowhere near good enough!
That used to be a perfectly good electrical fitting. The maintenance team would point out that if the people that work here would look after things, then this wouldn't happen. They are right, but the law still states clearly that the employer is responsible for maintaining the health and safety conditions in the workplace. I wonder how long it will stay in that condition? :insane:
Are you likely to rock the boat if you tell someone? Or does everyone know?
It's not so much a matter of telling someone, it's more about getting the matter attended to. It would be improper of me to approach the maintenance directly. However, if I follow the correct procedure, it's not likely to be brought to thier attention. In short, there's just too much red tape. π .Now if this was my home, I'd simply fix it myself. Technically, the landlord is responsible for this kind of maintenance. But my experience is that landlords will deal with it when they feel like it. I do understand the frustration that people feel if they're forever fixing the same things over again. Still, this needs to be attended to. I seldom work in the towers so I'm not interested in trying to get this fixed. It's just not worth the aggravation. It would take a long time to get this on the maintenance schedule. After all I'm only here today and tomorrow. π
π I could, but I'd probably get charged for, 'destruction of state property'. π
Oh, well … you could always just write 'fix me, dammit' on the wall above it in Nikko Pen before you leave … π
π
I dare you to fix it out your own pocket.. π
Chicken.. π
I don't have access to the circuit breaker and I'm not about to play around with live wires. :insane: .
Rather a living chicken than a dead duck be. π
You can short the leads and it'll trip the breaker.. You can fix it but someone might decide to flip the switch so to speak.. :insane:
You wanna come do it?
π no thanks! What's the update on those cable thieves? You had to take taxis didn't ya?
 .:sherlock: I deduce from your query that someone stole cables from the train lines somewhere. Thus commuters were forced to use alternative means of transportation? If that's not the gist of your comment, then I have no idea what you might be refering to. I use my 'vauxhaul devay' to get to work and back.
Yep.. That's exactly what I meant.. Some guys stole cables and it held up trains over weekend.. Seems someone wants those guys to be charged for more than just theft..
Well it should be a charge of treason. But that's not likely to happen. Even if it does, they don't shoot traitors anymore. :awww:
Damnit..
get access to the circuit breaker. put a tape on it saying do not touch breaker (temporary). and just ground the damn thing.bring screws and faceplate to work. insert the two screws and connect the sockets to the box. jeez.
i can't imagine that deep a level of 'sleep' :faint:
Normally that would be a solution. But this is in the guard tower. The circuit breaker is somewhere inside the prison. Not only do I not know which breaker this circuit is on, neither do I have authorisation to work with the breakers. I did speak to the person responsible for these things. He said that he is aware of the situation but it won't help to fix it because whenever he fix's these things, members break them open again. Apparently they do this in order to connect wires directly to the connection because is less bother than buying a R5 adaptor plug. :insane: .Imagine the mentality of risking death or serious injury so as to save a measly R5. π .
I hardly believe my eyes! If someone touches that it could be highly dangerous! :faint:
It would be an electrifying experience. But don't worry, the kitties hang around at the bottom. they don't go up to the top :left:
That's good. Fur gets so weird from electricity… :left:
I've seen that kitty on tv. He was trying to kill a Mogwai. :eyes:
Pretty damn scary. Not that I can talk, the way all my cables are plugged into this one ancient series of surge protectors.
I don't know what a Mogwai is. :awww:
A mogwai is what gizmo is  .
